What You Should Know About Brain Tumor?

This is the cancer that grows in the tissues of brain and can be malignant (severe) or benign (mild). These include all types of tumors inside the cranium or the central spinal canal.  In, United States, there were 22,020 new cases of brain tumor in 2010 and they caused 13,140 deaths.

Signs and symptoms
The volume and the location of the tumor are two factors; the visibility of the symptoms is based upon. The signs are:
  • Intracranial pressure
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Coma
  • Papilledema
  • Anisocoria( dilated pupil)
  • Brainstem compression
  • Cognitive impairment that includes amnesia (memory loss), behavior problems, lack of recognition, impaired judgment and spatial orientation disorders.
  • Emotional changes
  • Visual field impairment
  • Ataxia
  • Hypoesthesia
  • Aphasia
  • Hearing disability
  • Impaired sense of smell
  • Double vision
  • Facial paralysis
Severe symptoms are:
  • Paralysis on one side of the body
  • Hemipelgia, difficulty swallowing foods
  • Irritation
  • Abnormal fatigue
  • Epileptic seizures
  • Tremors
  • Weariness
In benign and initial stages of brain tumor, the patient may not show any visible symptoms for several years, or not affected by them at all. In many cases, there are vague signs in the person suffering from this cancer. These include headache, weariness, occasional bleeding,

Treatment
These treatment options are available for brain tumor patients:
  • Chemotherapy
  • Surgery
  • Radiation therapy
  • Clinical trials
  • Vesicular stomatitis virus(VSV)
  • Retroviral replicating vectors (RRV)

Post-treatment implications
A patient of brain cancer may suffer from these problems after getting the disease completely treated:
  • Limbs movement
  • Swallow reflex
  • Paralysis
  • Seizures and tremors
  • Pain in the treated area, especially after surgery
The individuals are also required to keep their lifestyle simple and do not make their nerves tense. They must modify their lifestyle and take the prescribed medications on right time.
