Apart from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common of all among women in America and also the leading death cause in the country in women of all ethnicities.- In 2008, 40,598 breast cancer deaths occurred in America.
- New cases diagnosed with this tumor in the same year were 202,964.
- In 1992, a total of 43,063 U.S. women died from breast cancer. The death rate was 26.2 per 100,000 women."
- In 1994 there were 43,644 deaths. The rate is 20.7 per 100,000
United Kingdom
- 12,116 people died out of which 12,047 were women and 69 men. The percentage is 99% females and 1 % males.
- Mortality rates from breast cancer have fallen drastically since 1989. At that time 15,625 women died and in 2008 the number was 12,047.
- During the same period, age-related rates have also declined by about 37% from 42 per 100,000 to 26 per hundred thousand women.
- Before late 1980s the age standardized death rate increase in all countries that UK is comprised of. Afterwards, there was seen a rapid fall in it. It decreased in all age groups form that time onward.
- From 1989 to 2008, mortality rate declined by 44% in women with age 40 to 64; 37% in those at the age 65 to 69; by 39% in 15 to 39 age group; and 19% in women above 70 years.
- The reason for the reduced incidences and consequent life expiry is said to be screening that detects for any problems in advance, thus helps prevent the tumor from forming or developing; specialized care and effective treatment procedures.
