Sexual harassment is serious case, especially in Pakistan because every country and place has their different norms and rules against the human rights and every culture is different. In Pakistan, especially in Karachi which is the biggest city of Pakistan and one of the biggest cities in Asia called as city of lights, it most of the times creates darkness in people life just because of the sexual harassment issue.
The rate of sexual harassment increases day by day in Karachi as the population is growing day by day, and every day there is a case of sexual harassment from stare or flirt to rape or assaulting. As Karachi is the biggest city of Pakistan and it’s a neutral city where you can find each and every person from each n every province or Pakistan and even foreign people around, it is just a neutral based. As being an urban area, all the people from rural areas come to Karachi for educational purpose or for jobs.
Women’s standard and respect in this society is considered high and it’s a sin disrespecting a women in a religion of this society, but still 90% of victims cause by sexual harassment are women. Every day there are 100’s of cases of rape and murder of women in Karachi, and only 5 percent of those cases are forwarded to the police. The status and respect of women is so high in this society that if women are involved in this activity they feel so embarrassed that they just don’t want to tell anybody about their incident and they just lie to people and keep suffering from inside, and most of them just commit suicide.
Most of the places are purposely mad segregated so female gender can feel comfortable but still male genders find their ways to sexually harass them, be it bus, school, office, bank, hospital or anywhere, the harassment never ends. Majority of male gender in Karachi shows so much desperation that female gender are prohibited by their family to go out of their homes, they can’t live freely or they have to go out with at least any male member of their family in order to secure themselves.
Females who are victims of sexual harassment, if they tell their family about it, their family don’t take any action and blame them about it and restrict them for many things. There are some colleges which are mixed where female and male genders study together, over there many female students are disturbed because every other day they just face some sort of sexual harassment, because of that the government has made only girls college where boys are prohibited. In hospitals female doctors and nurse are disturbed as the male doctors have started sexually harassing them, female doctors feels uncomfortable attending late night ward shifts, because sometimes there are patients who sexual harass them.
There are different NGOs who are made especially to help the victims of sexual harassment and to stop or decrease this activity. Even the government has made it mandatory for many schools, colleges and Office Companies to put anti sexual harassment policies in their notice boards and in their company’s profile, but still the rate of sexual harassment decreases less and very slowly, because it’s in majority and it has increased very quickly.
