Cancer risk in HIV patients

People affected with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus have a very high risk of getting some types of cancer than those persons that are not affected by AIDS.  Since the immune system is considerably weakened in HIV patients, the co-infection with other viruses as well as traditional risk factors contributes to more chances of cancer occurrence in such people.

According to an estimate, HIV patients have 800 times more chances to get Kaposi sarcoma, seven times more chances for non-Hodgkin lymphoma; nine times higher risk of getting anal cancer than normal persons; ten times more chances of getting Hodgkin lymphoma and four times more likely to develop liver and lung cancer.

Among women it also increases three times, the risk of having cervical cancer.  This is really a serious matter, so one must be very careful when affected by this virus and consult an expert to get the syndrome treated as soon as possible.

However, HIV patients do not have a risk of getting breast cancer or colorectal, prostate and several other common types of cancer.
